IHC Cro Services at a Low-Income Hospital
With diagnostic, prognostic and predictive roles in cancer and other diseases, immunohistochemistry (IHC) requires a large number of slides to be produced daily. As a result, it is important to find innovative ways of making IHC available at low costs, in order to provide high quality results for patients.
This article ihc cro services the results of an assessment of the cost and time required to process IHC slides manually or with an automated immunostainer. The analysis was conducted by comparing the cost and the time required to process 48 microscope slides, which is the maximum capacity that the IHC automated system DAKO Autostainer Link 48 can process over one staining cycle.
Western Blotting Services: Ensuring Accurate Protein Detection for Your Studies
IHC is an essential tool in the context of Precision Medicine, enabling the visualization of biomarkers and their spatial localization within tissue samples. It has a critical role to play in therapeutic development by accelerating clinical trial timelines and improving patient stratification. However, the implementation of IHC at low-income settings can be challenging, with barriers including poor laboratory infrastructure, limited staff training and financial constraints.
To overcome these challenges, a tertiary-care hospital serving rural western Kenya developed and validated IHC services over the course of five years. Strategic investments were made to develop physical housing for the IHC laboratory, coordination of equipment and reagents and ongoing quality assessment. These were enabled by partnerships between MTRH, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and the University of Nairobi, AMPATH, and close connections to North American pathologists with expertise in IHC.
